    Unsurprisingly, It Works

Since generic drugs must have the same active molecule as the “branded” drug, all generics function like the brand name. Of course, this Basic Care lansoprazole is no exception.I have taken a proton pump inhibitor every day for the past decade or so, due to chronic and severe gastroesophageal reflux. The only difference I have noticed between the different varieties are slight changes in the speed of relief. Like most generic proton pump inhibitors sold in the U.S., this one is made in Israel by Dexcel Pharma; I have never had a problem with a Dexcel product over the years. The only drawbacks are the grittiness of the tablet as it dissolves, and the slightly high price for a generic over the counter drug. Otherwise, this product has all of the benefits expected for a proton pump inhibitor: less acid made, less chronic heartburn.Since generics are around in abundance, I recommend selecting the best value. Should that prove to be a Basic Care product, rest assured the product will be effective and safe!

    Doesn’t work

Just because the price may look good, I’d go elsewhere. I thought it would be fine for my GERD symptoms. It was not. I’ve been managing GERD for 30 years. This product caused major issues for me. It was as if I wasn’t taking the medicine at all. I don’t recommend. Not all products are created equal. Skip this one.

Effective Heartburn Relief, But a Bit Gritty Upon Dissolving

I experience heartburn/acid reflux fairly frequently, so I’ve been taking prescription ranitidine (generic version of Zantac). The only problem is that I don’t always remember to take it regularly…they’re fairly large, rather bitter tablets (so I don’t like taking them unless I really need them), and it’s not convenient to carry a prescription bottle around with me. So I thought I’d give Basic Care Orally Disintegrating Lansoprazole a try; the small blister packs are easy to pop in a handbag, and I’m generally better about remembering to take medications that actually taste good.Overall, I found these tablets to be a good value, and they do seem to be as effective as my prescription medication in treating heartburn. The strawberry taste is pleasant, and they dissolve in saliva so you don’t need water to swallow them. However, the tablets don’t dissolve completely away, which is something I’ve come to expect based on other dissolving vitamins and medications I’ve taken (such as sublingual B-12 tablets and ondansetron anti-nausea pills). Most of the Lansoprazole tablet dissolves fairly quickly, but there are some fine, gritty particles left behind…smaller than poppyseeds, but about the same texture. The packaging clearly states “do not crush or chew tablets”; however, I either have to chew the remaining particles or swish and swallow a mouthful of water to get them unstuck from my teeth and tongue. The packaging does mention that you can swallow them with water, though that kind of defeats the purpose of ordering orally dissolving tablets in the first place.I thought it was a bit odd that the 42-count box contained three smaller boxes inside of it (each containing 14 tablets); but when I read the directions more closely, they clearly state the tablets should only be taken as a 14-day course, which can then be repeated in 4 months as needed. I’m about halfway through my first 14-day course of these tablets, so I don’t know yet if the effects will last a full 4 months. I’ll report back if I happen to experience ongoing heartburn after finishing this course; otherwise, I’ll take the next series of tablets in another 4 months. I received these tablets in 8/2019, and the packaging lists an expiration of 5/2020 — so they expire in less than a year, but my next 14-day courses would be due in December and April, so the timing should be fine.Overall, the tablets seem to work well for mild but frequent heartburn; and if you don’t mind the fine, gritty particles, they’re a better alternative to traditional tablets at a more affordable price than the name brand.

    These are orally disentegrating tablets

Play close attention to the fact that these are not the standard gel coated capsule. I did not even know there was such a thing as an orally dissolving tablet…Now I’m hurting until I can get the real pill. Because this obviously isnt doing the work of the capsules.
