   Not exactly as described

   If this is being purchased to replace the bottom of the criss cross chair, the base is too big. The gas cylinder slides right out. Even though the description states casters are included, they are not. This product also has to be put together. It is not one solid piece. With the being said, it seems study.

   Was good for months, until….

   I ordered this in May and it has worked great, but then in August, one of the sockets bent in. Not sure if this on part was just defective, but was sad that it happened.

   Solid and Durable Chair Base Replacement

   I bought this chair base to replace the one that came with my office chair. The original base was plastic, and the “holes” in the base for the wheels sat in had eroded, causing the wheels to bind. This base is all steel and the new wheels I bought fit very snuggly in the base.

    Not what I thought, I was impressed when I opened the package, I was thrown off by the smaller box, you will need to assemble the legs onto the base, but that was the best part knowing the quality of the product. Well worth the price. I would absolutely make another purchase.

    chair base replacement

    I removed the wheels to original base in advance. Once new base legs received I unpacked them took the hub just to check fit. To remove base I used a regular carpenters hammer. Alternating blows to the legs on the old pedestal it began to loosen and after about 10 hits of the hammer it was free. Installed the new base completely. Put on the rollers and installed to original chair which is still in good condition even though it is over 20 years old

    Surprised how sturdy it is

    I was surprised that the box was so small. Never have purcased a base i had to put together. It went together fast and is very sturdy. (Instructions said to tighten connectons as needed-which i’ll do) Some of the wheel sockets put up a fight, but i won in the end.

    Easy peasy

    I just received this in the mail. Had it put together in 5 minutes. Slipped right on perfect. My chair had a cheap plastic base that cracked. This one is metal so I hope it holds up better. It should. Hardest part was getting the old one off. Watched a YouTube video and I was good to go.

    Solid and well made.

    Very solid. Super easy to assemble and install. Getting the old unit out may require dynamite and various implements of destruction but well worth it. Despite the fact that everything else is the same it rolls much better now. I think it’s because the base holds the casters vertically more solidly.

    It saved me over $500!!! Brought back to life my comfy Autonomous Chair

    I was about to order a new office chair because the base part of my favorite chair broke. It’s Autonomous Ergomatic chair and this is not cheap. So researched to see if there’s a replacement part out there and I stumbled upon this item; read and compared to other parts but I settled on this because it’s ALL metal! And I said to myself, if it doesn’t work or even if it breaks easily, at least I’ll be able salvage my expensive chair. Item arrived, assembled and installed it. I am so happy that it brought my chair back to life! Highly recommended if you want to save your favorite chair!!!

    Works Wonders

    My office chair had a plastic base, and as they do over time, it cracked and got to the point where the gasket was touching the ground and lifted the wheels up. I replaced it with this new base and it instantly improved my chair. I feel safer too, because it’s made of metal and therefore is more solid!

    Superior Product

    The plastic base to my stool cracked recently and I hated the thought of spending several hundred dollars again to replace the whole stool. Found this base made of aluminum that fit my stool perfectly! I’ve even found that it allows my stool to roll smoother than the plastic base. The stool should have come with a metal base like this anyway for the cost. Regardless, this is a great product!

    Not quite like the picture

    The design of this chair base feels sturdy. For starters, it will always be better then the plastic bases most chairs come with. The rectangle tube construction and clean welds are all good signs that this will hold up to allot of wear and tear. The wheel connections are a good snug fit. Less play means less room for failure. The shock doesn’t fit flush with the base bottom like the picture but it looks as if that is just a variation on how the shock itself was built. I’ve only owned this for a week but feel confident that the base will hold up longer then the other plastic components that make up the chair.DIY tip: When removing the old base from the chair, it may be useful to spray lubricant around the shock before attempting to remove the base. I had to use a block of wood and some woodworking clamps to free the old base from the shock.

    Surprisingly stable

    I bought this to replace a plastic base on a medium-quality computer chair after I twisted out a caster by repeatedly using it on thick carpet. Based on the ad I was pretty surprised it wasn’t a single piece when it arrived but it has been fine. Mine didn’t feel loose or rattle, etc. and the gas cylinder/casters fit in easily and snugly. I didn’t examine it thoroughly but I didn’t notice any dents, dings, chips etc and the paint was consistent. I can’t say whether it holds the rated 2400 lbs but it seems to stand up to my 285 without any trouble.It’s nice that I don’t have to scrap my whole chair because the chintzy base failed after I abused it. Worth the money as far as I’m concerned.

    Saves your desk chair

    While it’s not a wheeled base, not all chairs need wheels. In fact, often the wheels are the weak point.A friend of mine had a $400 chair break its plastic wheeled base because of the stresses between the wheel and the support column, and had set it out for trash. I got this base, and after using it to replace that base, I now have the chair for myself. You could probably buy a bunch of these bases, and prowl the streets on garbage day for “broken” desk chairs, and make your money back just taking them and mating them with the new bases, then reselling or using the chairs yourself.

    Loose Manufacturing Tolerances

    I purchased the chrome finish “28-inch” base, and thought it was a solid cast/welded piece, so I was surprised when it arrived in a large shoe box sized carton. The individual parts are nice quality, but the legs are still loose even after tightening the M6 bolts. The legs slip over a mounting stub on the central base, and there is only ONE bolt to hold each leg in place. Two bolts would have stabilized each leg, or they could have had a tighter tolerance for a “friction-fit” and one bolt. The sloppy fit and one bolt design allow each leg to move back and forth a sixteenth of an inch at the ends (1/8″ range) while I’m sitting on it, so every time I move the chair while sitting on it, the legs are clattering as I start to roll. The diameter, BTW, is 28 1/2″ (measured from the center of the hub to the end of each leg = 14 1/4″). That’s a huge base, and it’s difficult to comfortably use the chair with it constantly in the way of my feet and bumping into the desk and file cabinets behind and beside me. Sending it back for a refund.

    Turned a Dying a Chair into a New Chair

    My office chair, which is nearly 10 years old, broke on the base where the wheel goes in (the old one was plastic). I wasn’t prepared to pay for a new chair so finding this made a great affordable alternative. This was a great replacement and appears to be much stronger. The basic concept of replacing it on the chair is easy, however, after 10 years, my old one was really jammed on — I ended up cutting it off. Once the old one was off, putting this new one on was super easy.

The welds seem incredibly strong and are more integrated into the overall structure of the legs holding the new wheels I purchased as well. I can use this chair for many more years to come.     Sturdy as hell. Great replacement for office / desk chair

    I’m not a light dude my any means prob pushing 250, meaning most OEM desk chair parts give up pretty easy and fast. This product though I have confidence that even if I take a running jump onto the chair it will still hold up. My issue with the oem chair base was where the wheels would clip into, started to shear out and the wheels would fall out / misalign. Extremely happy!

    Metal In A World of Mostly Plastic

    Full size and super sturdy metal. I bought an elevated drafting chair with a narrow base. I’m elderly and have brittle bones. A fall from this chair could be catastrophic. This sturdy metal base has a larger diameter than the plastic base the chair came with and I also replaced the cheap wheels. And the drafting chair is not a cheap model. But now it is safer than it would have been. I now have replaced the defective design base and cheap wheels on a two week old inexpensive gaming chair I bought since the legs fell off the base if you lifted it and it was a two man job to put the base back together.

    Rare 25″ base

    My original nylon base developed a crack that allowed the gas strut to slide all the way down to the floor and start rubbing on the carpet when I tried to move. I was looking at all the replacements available, but I measured my original and it was 25″. This is one of the few 25″ wide base replacements. It was well packaged, went together easily looks good. It has held up for the first week without incident. I am quite pleased with this purchase so far. I was able to re-use my gas strut and the original wheels without issue.As for knocking the gas strut/cylinder out of the original, because it slid down over time and got stuck further in, mine was stuck TIGHT. After using a rubber mallet, trying clamps to assist, then pounding as hard as I could with the rubber mallet, I eventually had to get a BFH (Big Freakin’ Hammer) to pound the cylinder out of the old one.

    Great chair base so far on Day 1

    I like many others, had the plastic base and wheel catching in carpet and ripped out the bottom of the stand. Loved this chair after decade or more of chair, it was very attached to it is base. We ended up taking a reciprocating saw to remove the base from from the chair.This metal base is awesome and sturdy. I have the skate rollers and took a light tapping with mallet to get wheels on base. Hoping the chair now lasts until I retire in a few years as this base is very well made if tapping it out to put on a new chair (if needed) doesn’t work it would just have to be tossed if chair fails. This base is solid and I highly recommend it if you need a new base for your office chair that only has a base issue. I would also suggest to purchase if you are buying a new chair with a plastic base. You will be saving yourself trouble in the long run. The wheels are on this chair base for life!

    Worked exactly as advertised, assembled easily, no problems – BUT. VERTICALLY CHALLENGED PEOPLE BEWARE… This adds more height to the chair than you might think… We replaced the bottom on my office chair which used to fit me fine (I’m 5’0″) and now… Trying to sit in my chair usually involves either a step stool or backing it up to a table first so I don’t go rolling across the room out of control…Also, side note, tends to get jammed up with dog & people hair easily, is not easy to clean 😛

    i needed to replace a broken chair base for my favorite office chair, and this was perfect. i was skeptical at first when i saw how it was assembled in parts since i was expecting a single cast piece, but the square hollow bar is nicely finished and very strong, fitting together very well and the screws are purely to secure the legs. my little plastic spacer thing arrived broken, but it’s a cosmetic piece and was easily glued back together.

    Fits Stapes Dexley Chair, brought old chair back to life!

    A crack formed in the plastic base of my “Union & Scale Dexley” chair from Staples, as seen in the “BEFORE” pictures. This caused a tilt that made the chair almost unusable, though the rest of the chair was in excellent condition. I was able to remove the old base using a hacksaw, several hours, several bandaids, and lots of sweat.Installing the new base was simple – it only took a few minutes, 5 screws, and installing the old wheels (which fit perfectly). Now instead of spending $180-$400 on a new chair, my old chair is working good as new (“AFTER” picture). I weigh about 330 pounds, I will update this review if the base fails in the future, but it seems pretty sturdy.I want to reiterate how difficult it was to remove the old base. If you have a crack like mine, know that there is a metal ring on the piston that digs into the plastic, basically fusing with the base. No amount of hammering will get it off. You will need to cut it off like I did, though interestingly the base was pushed so far up that I could have just put the new base on the bottom and it would have worked fine (2 bases!).I think if I get a new chair with a plastic base in the future, I will hammer off this one and use it again instead. Plastic bases are trash.

    Perfect Replacement or Upgrade so far!

    I had replaced the gas cylinder in my older office chair first, it ended up sinking through the base and hitting the floor, making the chair unstable and uncomfortable. So I decided to try replacing the base with a metal one instead of plastic, and this works great so far. Feels much sturdier, and the angle and material gives you a slight height boost as well. Works with standard size gas cylinders as well, and assembly of the base is super easy and quick.Honestly the hardest/longest part for you is going to be getting your OLD base/cylinder OUT of the old chair, that was extremely difficult for me, you should be prepared with a Rubber Mallet, some WD40, and possibly a Pipe Wrench, and bring some muscle cause all that stuff is set by weight and if you have an older chair like me, it was ROUGH to come off, even after doing it recently to replace the gas cylinder. Good luck!No issues so far, will update if necessary.

    Good replacement for a broken chair base.

    This is a solid and heavy duty chair base. I had to replace the original plastic base that came with my office chair. This one was a good choice. It is metal and much more durable than the original. You will have to put it together but it is quite easy to do. The hardest thing will be removing your old chair base.
