   Easy to break into and does not seal

   I bought this about 8 months ago. Opened and checked it out. It was easily opened with a screwdriver, but I wanted it’s fire and water protection.The outside had a lot of dust buildup on the outside, but the inside was also filled with dust! Why is dust able to get in? It gives me no piece of mind to have my valuable items in a box with the lack of seal not even secure from dust, let alone fire and water!

   Small and practical, but…

   I wanted a safe place to store documents and valuables that didn’t take up much floor space, this fits the bill. It’s compact and can easily fit in a closet. The lock is easy to operate and it’s fireproof, waterproof, etc. At a decent price, it’s a good little product. The ONE issue I have with it is that it’s so hard to carry. The designers didn’t think to put a handle on it, so it’s awkward to move around. Other than that it’s a good product, and it’s not like it’s meant to be carried around all the time, still one handle to pick it up with or an area to grip it from would have been great.

   Durable

   Sturdy, keeps things safe from fire and water. I put a silica pac in this since some people said they had problema with moisture. I have a different size of this box too but haven’t had any issues with moisture. I guess it depends on where you live and where you keep it.

   Fire and water protection also interior size3 hr

   72 Hr. waterproof protection is great. I bought this to protect Documents some on legal paper 8.5x 14 will fit if you curl the paper just a little about 1 inch from the bottom for the most part document lays flat and will fit nicely in this case. you tube has a video on the fire rating 1550 degrees for 30 mins, after they removed the safe from the fire and opened it nothing was damaged everything was in perfect condition.

   Good for college.

   I like it overall. Thankfully, I have not had to chance to test the catastrophe ratings, so I can’t speak to that. I bought this unit to use in college so I would have somewhere to keep my important papers safe. It is a great size for holding passports, checkbooks, and the like. It is not very big, so do not get it thinking you are getting a cheap safe. It is NOT meant for that. It is not a good theft deterrent, as it is easily picked up and carried. It is NOT meant for that. It is small space disaster protection, and seems well designed for that purpose.Also worth mentioning is the great customer service. The first unit I received was damaged, and they responded quickly, replaced it for free, and paid the return shipping cost.

    It really is not a safe / should be called a document and valuable box

    I like this document boxIt looks like it will perform as advertisedIt should be able to hold all your valuable papers & other valuablesBut I find it hard to call it a safe. I’m pretty sure I can pop it open with screw driver or chisel

    Not a safe safe.

    The media could not be loaded.

    This might be okay for fire and water resistance.How to quick search you can find many ways in. The worst one I saw is just a paperclip.Whoever designed this did not put much thought into it with such an easy breech being possible.On top of that, it’s a pain to open. The latch gets stuck often.

    Sturdy but lacking in functionality

    We bought this safe to store important documents and papers. We didn’t want something too big and this seemed to fit our needs. It is sturdy, a reasonable price, and the passcode was easy to set up. We appreciated that it’s waterproof and fireproof to protect our important documents.Some downsides: it BARELY fits a 9×12 envelope. If you want to organize papers and documents that are any bigger than that, this is not the safe for you. Since this safe was made to basically just store papers and documents, we were disappointed with the interior size.Another downside, this safe is small and light enough that someone could carry it out of the house if they wanted to. Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to screw it down in a permanent location. You would have to hide or store this in a very inconvenient location if you were worried about that.Overall, we rated this 3 stars. We were able to make it work to store MOST (not all) of our documents, but were disappointed in the lack of functionality that you would hope for in a safe.

    BEST BUY FROM AN ENGINEERING PERSPECTIVE

    In my opinion this is a best buy for Fire and Flood, the only thing I would buy additional is some type of a dry to remove moisture especially if you are storing a hard drive or jewelry inside the safe and they may need to be replaced if you live in high humidity areas if you open the safe often during humid times. Any pouches should be for storing smaller items only, not the documents, they do not require an additional pouch. I purchased similar safes from SentrySafe and others before. Also with my 47 years of expertise as a consumer purchasing for myself as well as for the US Government, it is easy for me to separate the bull published in marketing materials. The 1550 degree Fahrenheit Fire Rating is nothing more than a known maximum temperature of a home fire where gasoline and Diesel Oil is not involved. Anything hotter is caused by a fire where gasoline and/or those accelerants are involved such as in an automobiles, on ships and tankers, or an oil refinery where the temperature would exceed well above 1700 degrees Fahrenheit in the first hour near the accelerant. I mention 1700 degrees Fahrenheit because some sellers claim this in their literature. Next is floodproof (submerged in Water) Flood Resistant (Rain) would require every aperture to be sealed with a rubber gasket and a marine type silicon lubricant tested to a specific depth, that I assure you is not typically done as I validate with Underwater Systems deployed in the Ocean by the US Navy and Oceanographic Research Groups such As Woods Hall on the East Coast and Scripps on the West Coast of the US.My Background: In my first 10 years after leaving the Military and my earning my engineering degrees, I worked as a Process Control Engineer, primarily performing destructive testing associated with Flood, Fire, Shock and Vibration, and Explosions of proto-type process control instrumentation and systems to validate engineering specifications to meet various commercial, government, and military specifications and requirements that would be used in extremely hazardous environments such as nuclear power and power plants, oil refineries, distilling plants, mills, US Navy ships and submarines. After that I have been an environmental systems engineer working for the Department of the Navy for the past 35 years for a variety of shipboard systems associated with Power, Weather, and Physical Oceanographic Systems deployed to Ocean depths of up to 10,000 meters ocean depth.That being said, the inside dimensions of this box are inaccurate for the depth, it is exactly 8-1/2 inches at the bottom and slightly increases as you come up, the sides are sloped downward by about 5-10 degrees. To satisfy my needs I purchased acordian file folders from Walmart and cut the open ends to exactly 8-1/2 inches. If you want -1/2 by 11 documents in a file folders that is your only choice for this box. not recommended putting documents in the box, will cause jamming problems and compromising the flood protection.

    Hard to lock, won’t open once it does.-UPDATE. Exchanged it, new one is great.

    I have a few documents, passports, vehicle titles,and a few pieces of jewelry I wanted protected. This seemed like a great option. When the safe arrived it was not latched closed/locked. I thought that was by design, BUT now I realize t’s because the lid must be warped.I followed the instructions, installed a fresh 9V alkaline battery, which BTW iis NOT included.Programmed in my own code. Tested it several times. Both getting the lock to latch and then release was difficult. I should have contacted Sentry Safe at that point, but I didn’t. I put my documents a valuables in the safe, et the heavy lid drop, had to do it a couple of times before it actually locked closed.Once it did It wouldn’t open. Very frustrating.Finally I noticed the top doesn’t meet the bottom on the front corners, I appears to be warped.I finally got it open by putting it on the floor, standing on and having my husband enter the code and lift the handle. I removed my things and closed it again. Obviously you shouldn’t have to stand on the lid to get it to close or be able to open it. I have contacted the manufacturer, waiting on a response. If I don’t receive one, I will return it to Amazon. Definitely not worth for money or hassle. I would give this ZERO STARS if I could.UPDATE 6 days after I contacted Sentry Safe, I received a reply, there is a gasket for waterproofing, that needs to be compressed to lock and unlock/open the safe. Some users find it helpful to sit on it. W. T. H.?? If I don’t need the waterproof feature, the gasket can be removed, it’s not glued in.I responded- I had to stand on the safe while my husband entered the code and lifted the flimsy handle., that it shouldn’t take two people to open it. Once we got it open, removed the contents, i had to step on it to lock it. It will not open now at all. We can hear that the code is entered correctly, but won’t open The hook part of the latch doesn’t move when the handle is pressed.The rep responded, I told you in the previous email blah blah blah, if you’re not strong enough to get it to work, return it and find a safe you can operate. SERIOUSLY?? Horrible customer service!!UPDATE – I decided to exchange for a replacement of the same safe. I like the size of it, the price point and the fact that it is fireproof and waterproof. After scouring all of the available similar items on here, this still looks like the best option, many that say fireproof – really aren’t, once you read the reviews, they come with a fire resistant bag.Had I received the replacement first I would have given this item 4 stars. Minus one star for the absence of a handle to make it easier to move/carry.Don’t buy it for theft protection, although heavy, about 24 pounds, it is not a wall safe, nor can it be bolted down. This wasn’t by worry, I just wanted a secure accessible place for important documents at home rather than a safety deposit box at the bank. For that purpose this is perfect.I increased my original 1 star rating to 2, due to the horrendous customer service from Sentry Safe.

    No straps inside lid otherwise four star

    Mine did NOT have the straps for documents inside the lid as advertised and charged for.It is a well made, heavy small safe for personal items that I believe will do the job otherwise. Lid is heavy but opens easy. Would be better if there was a handle of some sort. Easy to lock. Nice look and well packaged. Adequate space for documents or boxed valuables.

    I ordered this safe for my uncle in another town. I was visiting when it arrived so I was able to see how nice and sturdy the safe is. He wanted one that would open with a key so this one fit the bill. He wanted one large enough to hold important papers and this one is definitely large enough to do the job. Overall, he was very pleased with the look and feel of this safe.

    Nice Product, Good Value

    I bought this as I figured it was time to stop keeping my extra cash in a coffee can. I bought this Sentry safe as the size was all I needed, it seemed a good value for the price, and Sentry is a well known name in security. Took a little longer than expected to receive it, but was well worth the wait. Not only do I keep the extra cash in it, but I keep my important papers in it sealed in ziplocs. In case of emergency it’s a quick grab, and out the door I can go. So glad I picked it up.

    defective locking mechanism

    Very sturdy safe. However, it does not lock automatically on a consistent basis! I called SentrySafe tech support and spoke to someone and they said it does not lock because of the water and airtight seal. They said I should put bricks on top of it for some time, then it will work. I’m not going to bother and just return it. It’s very frustrating to use it then when you are ready to secure/lock it, it does not work!

    Very Sturdy But could use a handle

    Not only is this very well-made, I have not so far had any problems opening. Just one suggestion:could use a handle or indented on one side for carrying as it is a little heavy.I prefer combinations over keys because: (1) I do not have to remember where I put the key and, (2) Do nothave to worry about someone getting the key to break in. I make the passcode something I know but someone else may not figure out. I love this small portable safe.

    Nice semi heavy box with what looks like a good seal.I would have liked it to have a handle, but that’s okay.It’s plenty big inside to store full size paperwork.The lock looks like something to keep your friends and family out, but maybe it’s tougher than it looks.It’s about what I expected for the price and I’d buy another one if I needed it.

    Heavy duty safe. Very weak lock.

    Lock could be cut open with reciprocal saw very easy. The lock is a small hook that is visible through the seam. The safe itself is heavy and oversized. Not acceptable for firearms or high dollar valuables.

    Heavy duty

    It’s heavy so no one will easily walk off with it. Good price, easy to use and most importantly EASY TO HIDE. Low profile ground safe that looks like a suitcase at first glance. Also check out the YouTube video testing sentry safes.

    A Fancy Brick.

    TLDR; AVOID THIS SAFE unless you are in need of a fancy 25-lb brick. It is nearly impossible to get open.I would enter the correct code, see a green light, and hear the latch on the lock moving. I tried countless times to open it. No go. And you have only 10 sec to start opening it or the safe locks again. Not much time for fiddling with it.Called SentrySafe. One of the first things asked was what battery was I using and what is the expiration date. Duracell, 9V, new from package, expires Dec 2019.The rep walked me through the procedure while I was on the phone. We got it open once (after about 4-5 failed attempts.).Being the skeptic, I closed the case while the rep was still on the phone, and tried to open it again. Nope. The watertight seal inside the safe may be to blame for the difficulty. This might have been alleviated if the designer had included a handles to provide for a better grip.What to do now? The rep told me to try a new battery. Seriously? 19 months away from expiration is too old? Plus, I can hear the lock unlatching!The only good point of the story is that I can return it and Amazon quickly agreed to pay for UPS to pick this up at my house.

    Perfect for the things you don’t want to lose

    First off I am not using this “safe” for any sort of theft prevention. Frankly, the locking system is cheap and I’m sure anyone can break into one of these things without the key. I bought this for the sole purpose of some Fire and Water resistance for the most important documents and non-replaceable small items I have around the house. It works for my purpose and the quality to seems to be pretty solid.

    Hold binders

    I looked around a long time to find a safe like this one that can hold a good sized binder. So many of the safes are large on the outside but not much room on the inside for documents larger than letter size. This safe has the most room out of any for the briefcase style. Feels very sturdy.
