No reason to go for any other brand
SHORT:———If you are looking for a chair that somewhat looks like this one, then this is exactly the chair you need.LONG:———This product deserves the best kind of marketing – word of mouth. This is why I’m writing this review too. Initially I was skeptic in trying AmazonBasics products but after using this chair I am decided to look at AmazonBasics every time I shop, before going to any other brand. There are only pros and pros to mention. One review mentions that the holes made in the seat were out of alignment thereby making the chair impossible to assemble and that review has been backed by a lot of buyers. It sounds very valid to me. This is problem not just with this chair but with **every** product that is shipped in pieces and assembled by the buyer, especially when the parts are made in China. However, since I read that review I decided to talk with a customer service representative about it. The representative said, expectedly, that Amazon would make the return as easy for me as possible if the chairs turns out to be defective (Not that I had any doubt about that) and that is pretty much anyone can guarantee. If you are unsure, then it would be best that you too contact a customer service representative and overcome your doubts. Now, the pros of this product are:1. The assembly is quick and easy.2. The cushion is comfortable.3. The min and max height (35.3 inches and 40.3 inches respectively) is good enough to help the chair slide under any reasonably tall table.4. The wheels have very low friction and roll very smoothly.5. Has been comfortable in long sittings. I have actually spent major part of my day on this chair.6. There is nothing in this chair that makes it look/perform like a cheaply built chair. The quality is good.7. I trust that Amazon won’t be troublesome at all if something goes bad later. There is one defect which I was able to notice but I’m sure majority won’t. And that’s that after I assembled the arms, left arm was slightly behind the right arm, like about 2-3 centimeters. This is not a big enough issue with me to not give this chair 5 stars. The goods clearly overshadow this bad.I haven’t added the photos. The final chair does look like what you see in the picture.Definitely go for it.

Great for the price point
To be honest, I don’t expect this product to last. Other chairs at this price point tend to break after a few years or even months, but this particular chair seemed to have the least number of reported problems. I check by looking at picture reviews. I bought this as a temporary chair until I can afford a better one that’ll last for years. That being said, I think this chair is great for under $70. Assembly was extremely easy and straightforward. The underside of the chair is labeled L, R, and FRONT to help you attach the parts correctly. The arm rests have a very faint, engraved “L” or “R” in the middle of the three holes where the screws should go.This chair supported my lower back well, but the chair padding isn’t that comfortable. I slapped on my own chair pad on top for comfort. The other con is that the arm rests are not adjustable and are too low for me, but as I don’t use arm rests often, they don’t affect my usage of the product too much.

for 7 years it certainly has been a chair
I bought this chair in Feb 2016 and am replacing it/writing this review in Jan 2023. So, my old one has almost exactly 7 years of extended daily use and the cylinder is finally dying to the point where it won’t support me at a high enough level. This makes me sad, because I am extremely cheap. I am 6’1, 185 lbs. This is not a luxury chair, it costs less than some of the memory foam cushions that are for sale on Amazon. The cushion for your butt is flat, basic foam and not real thick, but maybe my butt is also really flat and hard because it hasn’t bothered me much and I’ve sat in it for hours and hours even after the foam long ago gave up and left me sitting on basically a piece of wood. The back is the usual breathable knock-off Aeron mesh, which is fine. It has normal chair settings (rock-or-don’t-rock, tension, up-down). It has arms that are fine. The casters are standard sized; I broke one one time by dropping the chair, and I was able to buy a new one. Basically nothing is critically wrong with my chair except that the cushion has gone from flat to really really flat and the cylinder is worn out. After 7 years. I think I got my $60 worth. If you’re hoping to get a steal on an elite gaming chair, yeah, you have other problems. If you need an adjustable chair with wheels, for normal sitting and rolling around, this is a fine option.

A great chair for the price and better than some more expensive ones
Let me start by stating that I was, in no way, compensated for this review.I had been looking for a new computer chair for more than a year as the leather on my old one was cracked, I kept sliding down while sitting in it for any length of time, and found it a bit too big (though it wasn’t huge) for the room where I had it. I would always have to lower the chair to get it under the desk when I was done using it.I looked all over and tried various mesh back chairs as I did not want leather again. The problem for me is that I am short (5’6″) and not particularly heavy (about 138-140 pounds). Most of the chairs I tried I found the seat just that little bit too long and it would cut across the bottom part of my legs. Also, some were too wide. I was looking for a work chair, not a lounge chair; this is in my home for my own use and not meant to impress someone at a business meeting.Buying this chair sight unseen was an act of faith on my part. However, I knew if it didn’t work out, and with Amazon’s excellent customer service, I could send it back. As it turns out, it was exactly what I was looking for. As many others have mentioned, it was quite easy to assemble and I needed no help doing it. Everything aligned properly and I was using the chair within an hour of the box being delivered, putting it together, and disassembling and disposing of my old chair.I find the chair comfortable to sit on for extended lengths of time. Even at the height I want the chair, so that my feet remain flat on the floor, it slips conveniently under my desk without having to be lowered. The back support is good for me and I do not slide around. The wheels roll smoothly, even on my carpet, and the arm rests are just right for me.Some things you might want to keep in mind are if you have a large body frame then this might not be the best option. If you are quite tall then the stationary lumbar support back and arm rests may not work for your height. If you are looking for something with more padding then this chair probably is not for you. For me, though, it was just what I was looking for.

Oh, the Huge Manatee!
OMG THIS IS TERRIBLE! I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT THIS CHAIR IS SO DEFECTIVE! AMAZON BASICS IS WORSE THAN AL QAIDA AND ISIS COMBINED! THE BACK MOUNT OVERLAPS THE BASE AND oh wait, yeah, it turns out to be fine. It’s actually a feature rather than a defect – the overlap helps distribute some load from the backrest into a compression force on the seat base instead of just being held in tension and shear by the four screws that attach it.With that out of the way, here’s my thoughts on the chair. The armrests are not adjustable for height, but they do have slotted mounting holes so there’s some degree (maybe 1.5 inches total) of adjustment of how far apart they are. I’m a huge blimp of a man (6’3″, 330 pounds) so I positioned them as far apart as they’ll go, and I brush past the armrests as I sit but once seated, I’m comfortable. Normal humans will be just fine with the position and range of adjustment.I question the utility of a recline mechanism on a low-back chair like this, but I suspect that making a cheaper non reclining baseplate wouldn’t save any money over just having one part for all the chairs you make, so it’s there for you.The chair was packed appropriately in a box that was smaller than I anticipated, and everything was there. The instructions are easy to follow (and in English/French/Spanish) and all the hardware comes in labeled pouches, with spare parts and the ubiquitous flat-pack hex wrench included. It took just a few minutes to put together, and probably would have gone faster without my 17-pound cat trying to help.Nobody’s going to be overwhelmed by the outstanding quality of materials or construction, but I was impressed at how good they were for the price. It seems like a solid chair, and a very good deal for the money. As referenced above, I am a human manatee, and the chair isn’t rated to deal with my bulk, but it seems sturdy so far, and I will try to report back in the future to let everyone know how the gas cylinder and other parts hold up.

Good, basic chair
This seems like a good, basic chair. I just put it together easily and I am sitting in it as I write this review. It is replacing a chair I pulled out of a dumpster at work that was in good condition so I took it home… But that was ten years ago and it is now needing to be replaced. It is not a huge deal, but the armrests are too low for me to use without slouching over and I am 5’10”. I won’t really use them, but my last chair had adjustable height armrests, however, I could not really justify spending extra for adjustable armrests in a replacement, didn’t make sense to me given prices. I could have probably gotten by with basic task chair without armrests for less money and been fine, so if armrests are important, pay attention to measurements. I am pretty proficient in putting together furniture but I know not everyone is, so I wanted to share that you can use the box to help assist you with putting it together (not sure if that was shared in other reviews but didn’t really care to check). I will update this review if things go awry with this product.

A well-priced chair for Basic office need – LATEST review September 2017 with Pictures
Overview:1. The chair is similar to another chair sold by Walmart for similar price. Its built and quality are acceptable for the price range. The non-adjustable armrests are made of hard plastic material so you may find it not really comfortable.2. It takes about 15-20 minutes to fully assemble the chair. Well-written instruction.3. The chair can adjust from 17.5 to 22.5 inch in height (about 44-57 cm). Maximum load is 250 lbs.Detail review is as following:1.Packaging: The product came in a carton package size of 10x23x26inch (24x58x65cm) approximately. Nothing fancy about this product packaging, the package looks not so study and protective from the outside. Mine actually came with one corner being deformed. On the carton, it says “Product origin of China”2.Tools required: (1x) of a pair of scissors (or an utility knife) to cut the carton box open, and (1x) Allen wrench which is included with the package.3.Open the box: Inside the package, the back support was bubble-wrapped while other components are in regular plastic bag. Although the carton was deformed, no components are damaged. Each group of assembly parts (screws, washers) are in separate ziploc bags with well-identified alphabet symbol for ease of locating components during the assembly process later.4.Assembly: a.The instruction is well written with clear narrative and diagrams so assembly steps are easily to follow. It also comes with multi languages (English, French, Spanish and Chinese). If you have seen an instruction by IKEA (which assumes you are a handyman), you will indeed appreciate this product assembly instruction. This instruction is evidently written by American engineers b.The assembly steps are logical enough so I could put parts together without any issue. Tips for you: (1) use the packaging bubble wrap and other plastic bags as your assembly surface to prevent chair components or your house floor being scratched. (2) Only hand tight the screws. Do NOT over tighten the screws. (3) Before you sit on the newly-assembled chair the first time, make sure the chair is put together properly by checking on all screws are being tighten.5. Final Result: This chair is fine for the price. The meshed back support is not really designed for ergonomic but it seems to be sturdy enough for its design intent. The chair height adjuster works fine, I measured and the chair can adjust from 17.5 to 22.5 inch (about 44-57 cm) in height. The back support can also tilt backward or forward based on your preference.

Better than more expensive alternatives
After going through a parade of “premium” desk chairs, I decided to just get something simple that I wouldn’t mind replacing in a couple of years. Well, now that I’ve been using it for a couple of months I’m sad to say I really like this “budget” chair, and will mind it when it eventually has to be replaced. When you spend as much of your day banging on a keyboard in front of multiple monitor screens as I do, a comfortable chair that helps you maintain some semblance of human posture makes life a whole lot easier. This chair does that for me.

The chair is mediocre; it gets the job done.
I would say this chair is a 3.5, but rounding gives it a 4. The chair is not amazing, and it’s not terrible. I’ve had this chair for nearly two years already, and it just occurred to me that I never wrote a review on this. The chair’s cushion is pretty comfy for the first few months (can’t quite remember when it started to feel like you were sitting on a plank, but I know it was never comfortable for more than a year). However, it began to depress quite a bit, after those few months, and it was not so comfy anymore; after my buttocks imprinted onto the cushion. I ended up needing to buy a gel-padded cushion, which was also mediocre, to relieve my buttocks. *Sigh* I keep getting mediocre things and never learn… If you have back pain, and I would say keep researching for better ones and invest in a longer term option. This one will be okay for your back until the cushion gives out, and you’ll start experiencing back pain again, as I did. Mind you, that I’m a homebody that sits on a chair for ~4-8 hrs a day doing hw, work or video games, so your chair might last longer unless we’re the same. One thing I liked about the chair was the cushion when I first got it. One thing I still like is the mesh back support; they got two things right on it: the curvature that snuggles right in with your spinal cord and the breathable mesh for people with rampant sweat glands on their back. There’s also one more aspect that I love about this chair: the ability to lean back! There’s a setting on where you adjust the height of the chair to have it be “free” or “lock,” where “free” allows you to “freely” lean back about 30° back, and “lock” being, well, just locked and where you can’t lean back to your hearts content. Just don’t lean back too much or you might break the chair, or you might fall backwards with your chair; not that it has happened to me before. For people with back pain, I would say look into another chair, maybe one with lumbar support; I haven’t done any research so I’m just giving my two cents of what to look for on the whim. So far, I’ve heard great things about gamer chairs with lumber support, and it’s probably the ones that I’m going to look into purchasing next.

its ok for now
i just started working from home and my space is in the corner of the living room. I didn’t want to go all out because we will be building a new house soon and with it a real home office, so then I will spend more on something more permanent. So here we go. Its not uncomfortable. Its been holding up for the most part for 6 months. It was a breeze to put together. If you are looking for top notch you no you aren’t really looking at this chair. If like me you are not picky its a good deal. There’s just one spot where some of the material wants to pull out. I can push it back in but it eventually comes back out again. if i had glue lying around I could probably give a more permanent fix. note: I have 8 & 9 yr old girls that I keep catching spinning around in it so that could be a factor in the issue, but i think it came that way. not a biggie but something they should work on. I say as long as you know what you are getting then I would recommend it.

Defective Chair, Poor Design for the Back. Fantastic Customer Service
Mine is defective. The nut inside the cushion for the front bolt is stripped INSIDE the cushion and can not be tightened all the way. When leaning back, this is the point of the most stress. Hopefully it won’t break too soon.*** Update – I put a hex wrench in a drill to spin the bolt fast. It grabbed the nut and made it very tight. This chair CAN NOT be returned once it is assembled because it is impossible to get the base apart. As others have said, the back does not fit properly and the instructions were modified to cover this apparent flaw. Also the back rest does not come straight up but leans back too far. This offers NO back support.I added 4 washers under the front of the back support where it overlaps. To get more back support. It’s not perfect but at lease now it is not uncomfortable. The bolts are long enough secure it with the washers and the bulk of the stress will be on the back two bolts.***** Update – This is working and the back is much betterFantastic Customer Service from the Manufacturer

OK for a cheap price, not the lap of luxury
I’ve just assembled it so this isn’t a long term review. It’s a chair. It goes together easily enough and comes with the allen key you need to fit the bolts. Its seat pad is comfortable for me – perhaps a bit deep front-to-back.It turns out the tilt adjust is for the seat including the back, and not the back alone, so you can’t use that to bring the back forward a bit. Not ideal. The chair has one notable feature: when you put any weight on the back, as in when sitting back, the mesh doesn’t quite take your weight, and your spine finds the plastic bar behind it. I don’t think this will cause me problems in practice, but I’m a bit surprised that they managed to design it that way.The armrests are not height adjustable, but they are width adjustable as you attach them. You have about three inches of arm-to-arm play that you can adjust for by loosening the bolts, moving things and tightening them again. Also, if you’re a no-arm person they’re completely independent and can be left of or removed.

Still good value
One year on. The chair has performed adequately. It is comfortable (except, see later) and configurable. Assembly was as expected, meaning there were plenty of bolts and screws to deal with but nothing tricky. There are two caveats. One, the mesh has developed a hole in the middle of the back. This happened because the design has a rib across the back that is close enough to the mesh that when you lean back you can feel the rib. Rubbing the mesh against the rib has caused the hole. It seems to be stable at 1 1/2 inches width but it could widen to the point the mesh becomes useless. Feeling the rib through the mesh might be an issue for some.Caveat two: the plasic curved pieces over the top of the casters end close to the bottom of the caster, low enough that they catch in a moderately-piled carpet.I gave it three stars in spite of the defects because of the price. I’m quite pleased with the product as I believe I got an OK chair at a very good price.

This is a good basic chair
It’s a nice basic chair – almost perfect for the price point. The issue we’re having with this chair is that the back is not adjustable in any way. When you rest your back there’s absolutely no give – it stays straight and there’s nothing you can do about it. Perhaps they thought this is unnecessary since the seat rocks back and forth. Personally, I find the rocking a little odd for an office chair – I’d much rather have an adjustable back than rocking seat. The size of the chair is somewhat medium overall. I’m not a very tall person and it fits me nicely. My husband, on the other hand, is tall and he finds the chair back a little too short. This is something to keep in mind. Also, a lot of people have complained about the armrests being too low. I find them OK – you’re not supposed to rely too much on them while working on a desk anyway.Overall, I think it’s a good chair for the price. It’s not the most comfortable if you need to sit in it for hours on end because it is basic after all but it has a nice simplistic modern look to it with the back mesh that can go well with a lot of interiors and it certainly is an upgrade from a regular chair.

3 years later…
Like the name states in the product, this is a very basic chair that demands basic expectations. I bought this chair for my child when most of America’s school system switched over to remote learning during the covid pandemic. I wanted a decent chair that was inexpensive and, like a good pair of shoes, would hopefully last an entire school year before needing a replacement. 3 years later, I would say this chair held up decently for 2 years, 2 years worth of remote learning and some online gaming. After two years, the mesh backrest has started to tear. The seat cushion has practically gone flat. But, the chair did it’s job and it met my expectations. With that said, this is not a forever chair. I have a $300+ office chair from office depot that has lasted me over a decade and is showing no sign of wear, and my child now has an even more expensive chair, to replace this one, that will probably last a lifetime. If you’re looking for the last office chair you’ll ever buy, THIS ISN’T IT, and you shouldn’t expect anything around this price range to be. But if you’re looking for something short term and you wanted a mesh backrest, this will do…

Basically a perfect chair
As a relatively big guy (5’11” 270lb) I really don’t know what all the hubub’s about on this chair being “small”. It fits me just fine. It’s compact without being too small. For a home office, this is a good thing. The lumbar support hits me right in the small of my back, above the belt line (where it should). It’s well made. The arms are designed to fit under a desk. They don’t provide forearm support when working, but I rest my forearms on my desk when I’m working anyway. When I lean back, the arms are there to support my wrists and give my hands something to hold onto. Assembly took literally 15 minutes. (I know, because I did it between conference calls.)I spent a LOT of time reading reviews and comparing various chairs. I finally decided to give this chair a chance and I’m very glad I did. It’s a nice chair, not only for the price, but just in general.I wrote this review after receiving the chair, assembling it, and using it for a day. If anything changes, I’ll update the review. But really… Maybe there are people for whom this chair wouldn’t work. But it feels to me like a nice comfortable chair of average / compact dimensions that you might find in almost any office. One tip about the arms being too close together… The arms have slots in them for the bolts. So you can choose whether to snug the arms against the edges of the seat or allow a little extra width. I assembled the arms in the widest place in the slots. I recommend you do the same, no matter your size. It will give you some extra room in the chair.I’m picky. I’m not small. Price wasn’t my #1 consideration in my decision. I like the chair and I’d buy it again.

Can’t beat for the price
Great chair. Bought my 2nd after the first one wore out after 5 years.I usually only sit in it for no more than 3 hrs at a time, which is why I find a lot of value out of it. I noticed if I did longer stints working form home for multiple days my back does start to ache.If you WFH fulltime it’s worth the money to invest in something more ergonomic 100%

Great Chair
I read the reviews before ordering, but took a chance and ordered the chair anyway. Turns out there’s nothing wrong with this chair. Assembly was easy and straightforward, the bolts went right in just fine, and the instructions were clear and concise. Perhaps some people can’t read. This is a great office chair, fits my 6’2″ 200lb frame just fine. It’s no better or worse than what you can buy at the big box stores. In fact for this price, its probably a better deal hands down. I’m very happy with it.

Almost perfect chair….
Just unpacked and put this chair together in about 15 minutes. The only problem I had with assembly was that the seat back did not line up with the pre-drilled holes without overlapping (ie, being screwed in on top of) the seat plate. From the pictures in the instructions it looks like the seat back was supposed to slip under the seat plate assembly, but it was impossible to get this to happen. Having to put the seat back on top of the seat plate assembly meant that the bolts holding the seat back in place were just barely long enough to do the job. I don’t know if the holes were drilled incorrectly for the seat back or if the seat back assembly was not welded correctly to fit under the seat plate. It worked out ok (I think) and I hope the seat back stays put over time. Other than that small inconvenience, it’s a nice chair for the price. It does not adjust down as far as my other chair, so if I use my memory foam seat cushion, my feet dangle in the air and my arms/elbows are then too high to use the arm rests. Anyone tall (I am 5’5″) might have the same problem with the arm rests being too low. The seat back could be more upright to make it a bit more comfortable, but I may fix that with a lumbar support pillow in the near future.update… this chair is now pretty fantastic after purchasing this Medic-Air lumbar support pillow: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002Y4DBPQ/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1436107217&sr=1&keywords=lumbar+support+pillow

Excellent Chair for the Price
For a $60 chair, this is an excellent choice.Pros: Comfortable, even as a 73″ 220 lb individual. Sturdy, tilt lock works well, tilt tensioner works well, up/down mechanism and level work well. Room between back mesh and frame is plenty of space to add in your own pillow for extra lumbar support. Arm rests are at a good height if you work near a desk. I don’t have to worry about the arm rests disturbing the desk when I stand up with one of them directly under the desk, even at the highest height setting. Other reviewers have complained that these arm rests are too low; for me they’re perfect. Seat bottom cushion is ample, and mesh allows it to breathe well during extended use.Cons: Directly after assembly, this chair will literally fall apart if you do not sit down in it prior to attempting to lift it by the arm rests or back. This is because the main cylinder is “press fit” into the frame at the top and bottom. This means it requires the weight of the user in order to be fully seated in the wheel base and in the bracket on the bottom of the seat. After sitting in it once, it is able to be lifted from the top without issue. The tilt tensioner has an internal stop that prevents it from being loosened past a certain point. I normally like my tilt tension to be extremely weak, almost to the point of no tension at all, and this chair does not allow it to be that weak. While I would set it weaker if I could, I do find it to be acceptable.I would definitely buy this chair again.

All and all a good buy
All and all a good buy. All the parts were there and none of the parts were damaged. The packaging was pretty well. Instructions were easy, and none of the parts were complicated. The chair came with extra parts, which I appreciated. The parts seemed a little heavier than I had imagined, and holding up the whole cushion to put the back was a bit of work. Chair itself is more than decent for the price. The cushion is nice, and firm, but soft too. The armrests, like a lot of comments are a bit low. For a shorter person, can probably still use them if leaning back. Chair arms rest a bit closer or further though to the seat depending on where you bolt the arm rests. Back support is pretty good. Tilts back well, and no issues adjusting up and down. I’ve been sitting in this chair for the past few days 8+ hours each day, and it has been very comfortable. I am considering buying another one for an extra desk.Other comments: The arm rests do not move left/right like some office chairs do – though, not complaining for the price. As a shorter person, the back lumber of the mesh was a bit off when I sat all the way back. For average height, would be fine. For very tall people, the lumber might be off as well. So, for very short and very tall people who sit with their backs and butts all the way against the chair for a long time, that may be something to watch out for as there is a considerable curve to the back.Would give it 4.5 round to 5 stars. It is an excellent chair, if you fit in it well.Note: The instructions was tucked in along with the seat cushion so took me a couple of seconds to find.

Excellent chair. I’m about 5’8″
Excellent chair. I’m about 5’8″, 150lbs, so there isn’t really all that much of me to support, but prior to making the decision to order this chair, I went down to staples and sat in every chair in their store and nothing under 200 dollars was anything approaching comfortable. I am not really picky at all either. So I didn’t have very high expectations for a 65 dollar amazon branded chair. I was pleasantly surprised. The foam in the seat is thick and firm so at my weight I don’t feel any structure poking through like I did with the staples offerings. While the arms and the wheel base are plastic, they are structurally sound and I have total confidence in them being the last pieces to break. This thing took me all of 10 minutes to assemble. No additional tooling is required as the only necessary tool, an Allen wrench, is included with the hardware. The arm rests are also completely optional and not structurally necessary. If you like to sit cross legged or with one leg under you, you can leave them off.The controls are pretty basic, but functional. You pull up the lever to control the height, pull the lever out to unlock the spring loaded tilt, and the knob in the front controls the tension of tilt spring. The tilt lock control only locks the tilt in the forward most (level) position. It will not engage at any other angle. Its a no flair chair, but what it does it does well. If you just want a nice solid office chair and don’t have any special requirements, this is a easy regret-free purchase.

If you’re looking for a basic, inexpensive office chair…
I bought this chair for about 3 weeks ago, so I can really give my honest opinion. This chair is just as described, a basic office chair. Because of COVID-19, I am working from home now (like a lot of us), and will be for the foreseeable future. I needed a better constructed office chair for sitting in front of my computer all day and I needed something affordable to fit my budget. The chair is sturdy and was very easy to assemble (took about 30 min), but I had to make some adjustments for comfort. It has absolutely NO lumbar support, so I purchased a mesh lumbar support that straps onto the back. The seat is wide, firm and supportive, but does not have much cushioning, but because I take breaks during my work day to stand and stretch, it works good for me. I also purchased a pair of arm chair cushions to add some height to the armrests and add comfort. I knew I’d probably have to get some accessories when I bought this, but it was this chair, or wait a couple weeks until I had more funds to buy a more expensive, better equipped chair, so I made this one work. Overall, it’s not a bad chair, but it is basic, especially if money and shipping time are a consideration (this took about three days from purchase).

Noisy
This chair is comfortable enough, but it very quickly developed a lot of creaking noise that is actually embarrassing if you’re on an open mic. In trying to tackle that problem, it’s possible I got overzealous with the silicone spray … now it slowly sinks down to the bottom while I’m working, except for the times it drops me immediately when I sit down. (Don’t worry, that usually only happens when there is someone else in the room!)It’s sad because the only other complaint I really have is the cushion needed some help after about 6 months. I was even able to put it together with only a few backups, and I’m a female in my ’60s who is almost worthless with tools. I guess it’s a good chair for the money, but buyer beware.

Buy the Chair, If you DARE!
This chair is only just ok. I’m 6 ft. tall, and the arm rests can’t be adjusted up and down, so when I sit up straight I cannot comfortably rest my forearms on the armrests… what is the purpose of armrests that can’t be rested on, I wonder, as will you if you too buy this chair as a 6 ft. tall or taller person. I would estimate that even at a height of 5ft. 10 inches, you may not be able to rest your arms on the arm rests. Below that height, your body may be just short enough for your arms to rest comfortably on the arm rests. Naturally, if you’re less than 5ft. 8 inches tall, I would guess that you might not be able to rest your forearms comfortably either, since your shoulders would probably be pushed upwards. So, the ideal height of a person using this particular chair, is probably in the range of 5ft 8in. to 5 ft. 10in., for you to get the maximum benefit of the arm rests in an upright, seated position. Now, the padding on the seat part of the chair is really quite good, but full of fire retardant chemicals (since it’s made to CA fire standards – I have no idea why we are still using these chemicals in our furniture in this day and age). At any rate, the comfort level on your butt is really quite good. I also found that the back support is excellent for my height. It has really good lower back/lumbar support. The odd thing is that the lumbar support is also not adjustable, yet it seems in a perfect position for my height. It’s probably ok for anyone in the height range mentioned in this review too. Finally, the chair was very easy to assemble. I’m 240 pounds and it seems to be holding up ok for now, but I’m not going to place any money on it surviving long term. I look forward to trashing it after a year, and buying something more expensive, and I feel very comfortable doing that given the material world that we live in. At any rate, it’s purchases like this that keep the economy strong!

Good deal for your money. I don’t think you can go too far wrong.
I really kind of like this chair. The last time I bought an office chair was around 15 years or so ago for $150. Real nice – leather seat and back – chrome leather-covered arms. Kind of modern style. Quite comfortable and very stylish. Where I bought it is out of business. I’ve seen what I think is the same chair at a local store for around $400. I asked them if they would tell me the manufacturer so I could order a new leather seat as the current one ripped at the stitching so now I’m sitting on the frame. They wouldn’t. So basically for lack of a seat the chair is ruined. Actually, I have two of them in the same condition. So I needed a new chair. I went to the local big box stores but wasn’t really thrilled with what they had. So I went on line and found this chair. Good reviews. Very inexpensive. So I bought it. How bad could it be? I was expecting something pretty bad to be honest. But it isn’t. Very quick to assemble (very positive in my book – all parts are well labeled and even someone who can get lost in a paper bag will be able to follow the directions) and quite comfortable. I’m not thrilled with the mesh back. To me it doesn’t look particularly durable but who knows? Hopefully it will surprise me. For the money, if it lasts a couple of years I won’t feel bad. If it goes longer than that I think I will be ahead of the game. Still much better than what the big box stores are offering for twice the price.UPDATE – Three years and a few months have gone by and my fears about the mesh back were totally unfounded. Chair is still like new and has proven to be an excellent purchase. I would buy again with no hesitation.UPDATE 2 – Four years and nine months later and the chair still looks like new. This has turned out to be a really excellent purchase!UPDATE 3 – November 2023 now. I bought this chair in January 2016. In two months it will be eight years. My fears about the mesh back were unfounded. The chair still looks like new. It is still comfortable. Everything works as expected. Frankly, I’m really surprised. And really happy. Buy this chair if you need a chair. You won’t regret it.

A Much-Longer-Than-Needed Review for a Chair
I’m a big fan of amazon. I needed a chair. AmazonBasics had a chair. So I bought it.The thought of an Amazon brand chair was exciting to me. I needed an office chair and I wasn’t willing nor was I capable of affording a Herman Miller, or a Steelcase, and so on. I’ve had $200 Staples/Costco chairs and they’re okay, but typically not that much better than a chair such as this one. Rather than buying the cheapest generic chair from some generic Chinese company, it was appealing that a company that I have found to be reliable had their own to offer.Assembly: Out of the box, nothing was missing or broken. A booklet is included with very clear instructions and the hardware is separated and labeled in plastic bags; very well executed. One thing that bothered me is when you attach the back cushion under the seat it overlaps with the seat plate. I thought I did something wrong so I took it apart and put it back together for no reason, delaying the assembly process (I might have OCD). In the end, it doesn’t seem to be a problem.Comfort/Functionality: The seat cushion is very thick and firm, it’s probably my favorite thing about this chair. I LOVE THE SEAT CUSHION. Same goes for the back mesh, comfortable with good support. The pneumatic lift works well. The chair comes with a tilt lock and tilt tension adjusting knob, very basic. The caster wheels are very smooth. I don’t really care for the arm rests, but there’s nothing wrong with them I suppose. They are placed relatively low, my elbow does not even reach them so I don’t use them (I’m 5’8″ btw). I’m guessing they did this so that the chair could easily be pushed into the desk without clearance issue. Again, this is not important to me but take it into consideration when buying. No complaints at all. The chair feels very sturdy, nothing creaks or rattles or anything. It’s a solid chair.Summary: I’m pleasantly surprised by this chair. It definitely exceeded my expectations and I can see myself using it for a long time to come. It’s a comfortable and sturdy, no-frills, no-nonsense office chair. Well worth the money. I really like the seat cushion… I highly recommend it.

Spend more if you want a quality chair that will hold up
I bought this Amazon Basics chair three years ago in mid-2018, for just under $50. I gave it a try knowing that it was a fairly cheap and affordable chair. It has what I was looking for, mesh back, adjustable height and arms. It was easy to assemble and came with the required hex wrenches. The back rest is solid and hasn’t ripped, which was one of my concerns on my first impression.Well, after a couple months, I decided to replace the wheels with larger roller blade type wheels for better movement on my floor.About a year and a half later, the cushion started to go flat and I’m only 150lbs. I didn’t want to replace the chair yet, trying to get the most out of it and not wanting to contribute the the landfills.Three years after purchase, I just removed the arms because the cheap composite wood, seat base that it’s attached to, can’t tell if it’s particle board or mdf, started to failing and the inserts that hold the fasteners started to break out. One arm became wobbly and the other is starting to wobble, it may be partly because I lean on it once in a while and my kids like to climb on it when I’m sitting. I’ve owned more expensive chairs that have last over a decade and could take similar use. I suppose you could buy one of these every three years for about the same cost of a quality chair, though I don’t think I want to go through the hassle and have a flat cushion for most of the chairs life.I give it a three star rating because it was cheap and is still okay without arms and a flat cushion, so it’s still usable and I’ll repurpose it. I’ve bought a cheaper chair without arms and well the back rest wobbled all the time, even after tightening it. So, with all things considered, this was a decent chair for the price but could be about 10-20% cheaper.

This has stood the rest of time
I bought this chair 5 years ago for my college desk, and it has stood the test of time. It is sturdy and is as comfortable as when I bought it. It surprisingly hasn’t fallen apart, despite the amount of times it has been moved around from apartment to apartment every year. The only thing I don’t like is the holes in the fabric seat. It collects all kinds of eraser shavings and anything small enough to get in those holes, and is near impossible to clean it out.

Overall great chair with room for a armrest improvements
Overall I like this chair, especially for the price. Assembly was a breeze. All parts were clearly labeled. Whomever packaged the parts and wrote the assembly instruction booklet couldn’t have made it more clear and easy. (A rarity.)I find the cushion to be comfortable and of medium firmness. I would’ve paid more if the arm height was adjustable, or if at a minimum were able to be lifted out of the way against the back of the chair making the chair essentially armless. I find the fixed arms to be about an inch too low, but if I am just sitting back, relaxing in the chair, my wrists rest on the armrest and it’s better than nothing. The height of the chair was very important to me. It was hard to find accurate measurements, so as soon as I put the chair together, I took my own measurements. I hope someone else will find it helpful….The seat is 19″ wide x 18″ deep. The height to the top of the seat at it’s lowest setting is 17.5″ and 22.25″ at it’s highest. The seat height sinks about 7/16″ when you sit in it. Because the seat is rounded in the front and not perfectly flat, it makes measuring the height difficult. I placed a thin piece of cardboard on the seat, then a quart sized paint can on top so it wasn’t floating. I then measured from the floor to the bottom of the cardboard. I posted a few pictures. (Sorry if they are sideways…they are the correct way on my computer and nothing I did uploaded them right side up on Amazon.)Floor to top of arm height is 23 5/8″ at lowest seat height setting and 28 3/8″ at highest seat setting. (To determine if it will roll under a desk. This is also difficult to measure as the arm rest is curved. I measured the middle of the arm rest.)Fixed arm height is about 6.25″ from top of seat to top of arm.Note many reviewers complained that during assembly of the back rest to the seat cushion, the metal back bar frame overlapped the seat plate. They must have updated the assembly instructions at some point because the instructions clearly state, “the metal back bar frame will overlap on the seat plate.” They then show a diagram showing the overlap with another note,”back bar will overlap seat plate when aligning to holes.” So, this is not a design flaw but intentional.Overall, I am very happy with the chair. I use it about 4-5hr a day, 5 days a week. So far after 3 months it is holding up well.

Nice chair
I just received this chair because the first one was missing the piece to connect the back of the chair to the seat. Returning the first one was easy and they shipped the replacement chair immediately. The chair was fairly easy and took about 30 minutes. The chair is pretty comfortable and raises and lowers easily. I am retired and use the chair an hour or so per day to pay bills and surf the internet so it fits my needs nicely especially at the low price.

A fantastic chair – with fantastic support – both kinds!
I’m generally a big fan of Amazon, I’ve been a Prime member forever, and I buy, well, almost everything from them. I’ve often been impressed with their AmazonBasics line, and this chair is no exception.Since many questions come up about comfort and support, I’ll mention that I’m 5′ 7″, 215 lbs, 48, male. Not huge, but definitely overweight. I’ve gone through many chairs – some just wearing out, and some I’ve had to get rid of. Most “normal” chairs tend to bend, wear out, or come apart in some way, after a while, and while I tend to prefer “heavy duty” chairs, those chairs tend to be so uncomfortable after a time that it’s like sitting on wood.So I admit I was hesitant about this chair – but two things caught my attention: the fantastic price (compared to other chairs), and the AmazonBasics name. While it is true that “Basics” implies… well… “BASICS”…. this is BY FAR the most comfortable chair I’ve ever owned. The part you sit on has a perfect and generous amount of cushioning that has stood up to repeated use, and still remained soft. I frequently have pain at the base of my spine, and I *notice* when a chair is uncomfortable. With other chairs, I”ve had to use pillows or extra padding, but this chair is absolutely amazingly comfortable, even after 7 months of constant use (purchased this in February 2016).The seatback is also awesome – it’s made of a kind of nylon mesh netting – not metal (as you’d think from the pictures) but soft material. This stuff is so much more comfortable to lean back into than any normal chair back I’ve tried, that I find myself leaning back into OFTEN – whereas with other chairs I would avoid leaning back at all. So… bottom, back, lumbar support – all there, and really amazingly nice.Of course… BASICS. So the armrests don’t adjust and are not adjustable even during assembly – and the same for the back. The back does “go back” a little, and there is a “push to lock” option on the control arm – but that’s it. Up/down, lock/unlock, that’s all you get. (There’s some kind of knob on the front that I suspect controls tension, but I never mess with it, it doesn’t seem to make a difference to me.)Assembly was easy. The screws take an alan wrench (hex key) tool, which comes with the chair. I’ve seen people commenting on screw holes not lining up, causing the back plate to overlap the bottom plate. Here’s the thing: IT’S SUPPOSED TO. Just follow the instructions, assemble the chair in order, and tighten it down. The chair will come out fine, and perfect, and you’ll love it. Assembly was typical for an office chair – but I was able to do it myself. This chair is lighter than most, which makes assembly quite easy. Now… not all is sweetness and light here. About 7 months in, the cylinder in this chair started to fail. I’d be sitting on the chair, and it would suddenly JERK downwards about half an inch. Then it would wait about 30 minutes, and JERK down again. UGH! It was not fun! But here’s where the AmazonBasics (and Amazon!) really shines: Since this is an “Amazon Product”, there is a one-year warranty noted right on the product page… and it’s administered… BY AMAZON! YAY! They didn’t even make me call some other number or company or anything. I just went to MY ORDERS, hit the “Return or Replace” button – this was 7 months later, mind you! – and sent a message. Within a few hours, I heard back from an agent asking if I’d like a refund, or a new chair? WOW! Really? Awesome! I mean… I was a little sad that they couldn’t just send me a new cylinder and bottom part or something, but, hey, a whole new chair, okay. They sent it free, with free overnight shipping, and i had it the next day.And let me just amplify on this: I kind of wanted to try to fix this myself. I saw on Amazon where they have replacement cylinders you can buy. And if you have a big hammer, you can apparently “bang out” the old cylinder and replace it with a new one. Not so for this chair: The bottom piece which bolts onto the bottom of the seat cushion, and into which the cylinder fits, is a CLOSED assembly. You can remove it from the chair, but you cannot disassemble it further in order to bang the cylinder out. So don’t even try. If you have a cylinder problem within the warranty period (a year), just let Amazon handle it for you. If it’s post-warranty, you’ll either need some kind of special clamp-on tool (Amazon has these – some of the cylinders come with them) to force the cylinder out from the outside (too much for me, I didn’t try that), or you’ll just need to buy a new chair. Which, knowing how great this chair is, I’d do in a heartbeat. So, again, a really great product from AmazonBasics, with the absolute top-tier support that you’d come to expect from Amazon. Buy this chair with confidence, it will serve you well!

Comfortable, affordable, and easy to assemble!
The AmazonBasics Mid Back Office Chair is a great, inexpensive choice for gaming, working, or lounging around. The chair is adjustable (up and down movement), It has many of the same functions and features as other chairs, and the chair has a nice design that helps it blend in with any surrounding. When I was shopping around for a chair to complete my office/gaming setup, I was trying to find something inexpensive and comfortable. This chair caught my eye, because it seemed simple and comfortable. When it arrived, it only took 15-20 minutes to put together. It is very easily adjustable, heightwise, with just the pull of a lever on your right side. This is especially awesome, considering I have a desk that can also move up and down. The armrests, while plastic, are very sturdy and are great for resting your elbows on while typing or reading a book. There are 5 wheels that work well on hardwood and smooth surfaces, even though I have carpet in the room I use the chair in. The cushion on the bottom of the chair is quite comfortable and I have sat in it for hours doing homework or playing games and not being annoyed by it at all. The mesh on the backrest has a slight curvature, which helps keep your posture while you are doing your activities. The chair also has a universal design that goes well with many different colors and furniture in a room, as you can see in the pictures I have taken. I have owned this chair for about 8 months now, and I am not disappointed. A few things could see to be improved though. The back of the chair isn’t adjustable (to my knowledge) so this sometimes causes me to slouch down in the chair, giving me back cramps. I’m not that tall, so that could be a problem because this chair is probably meant to accommodate taller, larger people and I’m neither of those (at least people taller than 5’4). One more gripe I have with this product is that the seat cushion is wearing down a little bit and making an imprint of where I’m sitting permanently. This makes sitting in the chair a little uneven, but you can shrug this off as its only a small negative takeaway. Overall, I would say this chair is worth sixty-five dollars because of its adjustability, its multitude of functions and features, and its sleek design that makes it look good in any environment.

Updated review after a year of use…Good buy.
First, For the price it’s a fair deal.Second, I’m six feet tall so I like that the height adjustment has a wide range of adjustments from very low to very high.Third, I like the mesh back support because it gives your back ventilation that you don’t get with solid back chairs as well as good back support, although for me personally, I would have preferred a little more pronounced support in the lower lumbar area. Also, other reviewers have commented that the mesh back support could be more durable. This is a brand new chair so it has no wear yet but I can see that durability might be an issue in the future. Now for what I don’t like:First, and most important to me, is that the seat is too deep…even for me being six feet tall, so if you have short legs I don’t recommend this chair. When you sit in a chair, in order to be comfortable you must be able to have your feet flat on the floor while at the same time resting your back against the back support of the chair. If the seat it too deep you can’t do both. Second, the seat cushion is very thin and hard…also something other reviewers have commented on. This is a brand new chair so clearly this will only worsen with time. I’m going buy an addditional cushion to help with this.Update: I’ve had this chair over a year now. I originally rated it as 3 stars but after a year of every day use I felt I clearly owed the chair another star. It has held up surprisingly well. The gas mechanism that holds the chair at the same height works as good as new (this is a big deal because when this fails as it does on some of these types of chairs the chair is no longer any good because you start out at a certain height and the mechanism loses grip and you end up low like you’re sitting in a little kids chair). So kudos for durability. Next, I commented on the seat depth originally. After daily use for a year I must say I was mistaken in my negative comment. The chair fits me fine with proper height adjustment. Lastly I have to say the cushion is in nearly as good shape as when I got it. I still say it is harder than it should be (which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5) but it is tolerable and holding up well as I weigh 220 lbs.

Completely Adequate for low traffic rural library
Amazon Basics Mesh Mid-Back Adjustable-Height 360-Degree Swivel Office Desk Chair with Armrests and Lumbar Support, Black arrived packaged a little hickey screws fell out … I went to the hardware store & purchased replacement screws. Assembly instructions were clear to me. Tested it out, it all worked. I’m a pretty hefty person and I felt comfortable. Seat adjustments worked as described. I’m not convinced this chair would tolerant the abuse of large people using it daily.

Amazing for the Price
I was expecting the bare minimum with a title like “Amazon Basics”. This chair is GREAT. My back is supported and this chair really feels no different from something you’d pay $200 for. I obviously can’t speak for the durability because I just got it, but I am majorly impressed so far. It was also practically mindless to assemble. I almost didn’t need instructions aside from knowing which screws to use. But in case you need them, they are excellently presented. And all the references to the screws and washers are perfect. Everything is laid out too so there can be no mistakes, as far as the packaging of the screws. In comparison to much more expensive products that just put stuff in the bag and even while giving you a reference don’t properly show you which screws are which. So ghetto. I just LOVE this chair so far!

Excellent
If you’re looking at this chair because your current chair is absolute crap, then this is an excellent chair for the money. Took me 30 minutes to assemble and is of impressive quality. Highly recommend.

I’m not happy
The Seat Plate – The part that bolts to the center of the bottom of the seat and connects the seat to the gas lift, and the plate that connects the back rest bracket to the back of the bottom of the seat, overlap. I could be wrong, but I don’t think they are supposed to do that. I think that the bolt holes in the bottom of the seat were drilled too close to each other. I’m pretty that both plates should fit flat on the bottom of the seat and not overlap. I put the chair together, and it seems sturdy, and the plates are not wobbly. Taking the chair apart and repacking it to send back would be a lot of trouble, and I have already waited weeks for it to be delivered, so I’m going to keep it and hope that it stays sturdy.

Failed after 1-2 years bearing 200-260 lbs
The chair seemed great when it arrived 2.4 years ago, but then it failed! On arrival, the chair required maybe 30-60 minutes of assembly–screwing lots of bolts to attach parts (e.g. the seat, left armrest, right armrest, back, height control lever). For the first year or so, the chair functioned as expected–a great chair at a great price! I was the only user of the chair at a weight ranging between 200-260 lbs, which–although in retrospect my height may have led to more leverage than most users–was well under the rated weight specification of 275 lbs.Unfortunately, after the first year, the cheap plywood seat bottom started bending/folding causing the seat back to lean too far away from the occupant so as not to offer support. What does this mean? If the seat occupant leaned back against the back, the center of mass would cause the chair to tip. Familiar with this concern, I used the chair without leaning against the back, but last week, my parent visited, sat in the chair, and despite my warning not to lean back, in some way tipped out of the chair. I have since removed the seat back and now just have an adjustable-height seat cushion on a rolling base to sit on, which is the rolling stool I am sitting on now while typing this review. Happily nothing happened when my parent fell, but what if your loved one fell and hit their head on a desk corner or the floor or broke a bone?Although the chair worked well for one year, it failed faster than any chair I have ever known when operated well under the rated weight. This makes me question the credibility of the claimed BIFMA certification, ostensibly for safety and durability. Maybe I should have replaced the chair sooner, but I also should not have had to. This chair’s rapid failure is not normal and much below expectation. When I followed the product user manual PDF in contacting Amazon support “if you need help with your Amazon Basics product” to try to get a replacement seat part, three Amazon support agents claimed they could do nothing because it was out of warranty. They were polite but not helpful when I just wanted to know where to find a replacement seat part. And the Amazon customer support thread kept pausing due to time-outs, rather than the agents completing the task and following up reaching out to me. Ultimately, Amazon support management made the situation right, but I had to be persistent.Amazon could fix this problem in the future by making the chair seat more substantial (with thicker plywood, plastic, or fiberglass), by selling replacement parts, and by better training customer support on more options than just “replace and refund” within the warranty time window. So here is my rating:- Chair for the first year: 5 stars (fully functional, good price, including shipping)- Chair for the second year: 2 stars (no usable seat back to lean against)- Risk of chair to parents or friends: 1 star (risk to loved ones is more important than a low price)- Amazon support: 2 stars, 2 stars, 2 stars, and then 4 stars (polite but useless until finally helpful)Overall rating: 3 stars of 5 (charitably)

It was missing parts…
LONG-LONG-time Amazon customer here. Ordered this “Amazon Basics Mesh, Mid-Back, Adjustable, Swivel Office Desk Chair with Armrests, Black” and received it with the shipping box previously ripped open and taped back up plus with new shipping damage. As I moved it into my house, my wife asked “Is this a screw for that?” with a screw in her hand. Sigh… Yes it was. I hoped for the best, opened the box and as I laid out the pieces, another screw fell out but at least it was still in the shipping box this time. As I laid out the various parts, I came to the card with the small bits sealed to it with the tough, clear plastic. Someone had opened the shipping box and cut open ONE of the bubbles to take out some screws! Nothing else was cut open or missing! It turns out to be missing a couple of screws and the pedestal is damaged, evidently in shipping. No problem. I got online to Amazon to get some help and found the ONLY recourse I have is to ship this back to Amazon to be evaluated BEFORE they will ship me a replacement!?!?!?!Not even a “can we help you?”No “we’ll ship you the screws and…”No “our product specialist will get in touch with you.”No “we’re shipping you a replacement asap and just ask you to return that one.”I would LOVE to be giving you a thorough, fair and honest evaluation like I have done countless times before, but AMAZON is really sucking it big time this time.UPDATE 8/8/2023: I went to the hardware store and bought some screws and washers and a mechanically-inclined friend fixed the pedestal so I put the chair together. Directions were clear and easy to follow so the total time was maybe 20-30 minutes to put it together by myself. I’ve only used it for a day but it does its job well – it rolls around, I sit in it, I lean back, I lean forward… Yep! It’s a chair! I will update this review after I have used the chair for a while. The value is kind of iffy, considering all that I had to go through to get a roll-around chair for my computer station but the ease of putting it together and the clear instructions kind of balance it out so “Yes, I still recommend this chair.”
